Q: Can you assemble the model for me?

A: Unfortunately the cost of shipping for an assembled model is prohibitive. The size and shape of the model makes it difficult to fit in a standard size shipping box. However, assembly is very simple and the instructions have been tested by many non-technical people who were all able to complete assembly correctly without a problem.

Q: How does the model "unzip"?

A: The links used to make the base pairs are actually two pieces that fit tightly together. This tight fitting allows you to separate them, and connect them again as often as you wish.

Gel Electrophoresis Model

Q: Can this model be used for an actual gel electrophoresis?

A: No. The model is made of a durable material and not agarose, and so is not usable in an actual study. The model is designed to be used for practice in loading and unloading agarose gels without the expense of using real gel agarose products. It can also be used to demonstrate a succesfully completed gel electrophoresis experiment.
